Two Days in the Clouds
Village to Village Through the Pueblos Mancomunados
Ruta: De las Nubes
One of the most special ways to experience the Pueblos Mancomunados is to stay in the communities themselves. Spending the night in the mountains allows you to slow down, experience the changing atmosphere of the forest, and develop a deeper connection with the landscapes and village life of the Sierra Norte.
This two-day journey stays at high elevation and leads from village to village through cloud forest, combining beautiful hikes with a night in the community cabins of Cuajimoloyas.
Day 1 – Cueva de la Iglesia to San Antonio Cuajimoloyas
Beginning in San Isidro Llano Grande, we follow mountain trails across the territory of San Miguel del Valle and into the Pueblos Mancomunados. One of our favorite hikes, this route passes through high pine forests, hidden waters, and the beautiful canyon of Cueva de la Iglesia. Encounters with the wild horses that often roam this landscape are one of the special moments of the day.
By late afternoon, we arrive in Cuajimoloyas and settle into the community cabins surrounded by forest and cool mountain air.
Day 2 – Toward Benito Juárez
The next morning, we continue walking through the cloud forest toward Benito Juárez, following old village paths and enjoying the quiet rhythm of mountain life. Depending on the group and mood, there is the option to finish with the hanging bridge and the three-part zip-line above the clouds — or simply take in the spectacular views.
Two days of walking, mountain hospitality, and immersion into one of Oaxaca’s most extraordinary ecosystems.
